About HowTo Cross

More paths. More choices.

HowTo Cross exists to help young people see and access more paths across borders. We do this through firsthand experience, structured information, practical tools, independent decision support and human guidance.

Our point of view

Real life teaches what distance cannot.

We serve young people who are not satisfied with only imagining the future from campus. They want to enter a different environment, take responsibility and test themselves through action.

Why we exist

Action needs a path people can understand and trust.

Cross-border programs bring together different systems, responsibilities, costs, risks and timelines. HowTo Cross turns that complexity into practical preparation for students and clearer China-side communication for organizations.

Two responsibilities

Serve the student. Strengthen the pathway around them.

Students and organizations need different information and different conversations. HowTo Cross connects the two without confusing their roles.

For students

Understand. Prepare. Take action.

Start with a realistic understanding of Summer Work Travel, prepare for the decisions and practical work ahead, and ask for support when the next step is unclear.

How we work

Support should continue after the first yes.

Explain clearly

Translate program structures, rights, costs, risks and timelines into language people can use.

Prepare thoughtfully

Organize readiness, documents and pre-departure steps before participants leave home.

Coordinate responsibly

Keep institutions, partners and participants aligned through clear roles and written records.

Stay present

Support the journey from first interest through the program and the reflection that follows.

What guides us

Trust is built in the details.

Honest communication

Say what is known, what still needs confirmation and who holds each decision.

Clear responsibility

Make service boundaries, fees, timelines and escalation paths visible before commitment.

Participant safety

Treat preparation, local standards and incident response as part of the experience itself.

Complete records

Use written approvals, checklists and feedback to make every program more accountable.

Long-term trust

Choose reliable delivery and durable relationships over fast, unsupported growth.

Clarity includes limits

Trust means being clear about the line.

HowTo Cross supports program education, participant preparation, communication, approved coordination, local support and feedback. Academic institutions and designated sponsors retain the decisions and regulated responsibilities that belong to them.

We do not promise admission, visas, jobs, placements or income—and we do not present a partner relationship before it is confirmed in writing.

Why HowTo Cross exists

Built for people who learn by stepping into real life.

HowardFounder, HowTo Cross

HowTo Cross began with Howard’s firsthand experience as a Chinese student living and working abroad. Entering a different environment changed how he understood independence, work, culture and the possibilities of life.

It led to a simple belief:

Young people should have more chances to move beyond imagining the future on campus and test themselves in the real world.

HowTo Cross is being built around that belief—starting with practical Summer Work Travel education, preparation and support, and with clearer ways for U.S. organizations to communicate with students in China.

A note from the founder

“I don’t believe everyone needs to live abroad. But I do believe everyone deserves the chance to discover that life can be lived differently. That is what ‘More paths. More choices.’ means to me.”

The culture around HowTo Cross

Howard’s wider interests include AI, Web3, cross-border commerce and one-person companies. For now, these remain founder interests and future editorial topics—not HowTo Cross programs.
